Description
The beautiful lilac-breasted roller is one of Africa’s most colorful and abundant birds. The rainbow of colors that both male and female display is truly stunning. Lilac-breasted rollers prefer grassland or savanna habitat with open woodlands or scattered trees and shrubs for nest building and hunting perches. They will perch on a dead tree to survey the area for prey. They feed on grasshoppers, beetles, scorpions, occasionally lizards and other small vertebrates. Lilac-breasted rollers are monogamous and highly territorial.
