Description
The phrase "EQUAL JUSTICE UNDER LAW" is engraved above the main entrance to the United States Supreme Court building in Washington D.C.
The Supreme Court Building in Washington, DC is a large neoclassical buildings erected in the 1930s. It was designed by the architect Cass Gilbert. The classical Corinthian architectural order of the building was selected because it best harmonized with nearby congressional buildings. The building was designed on a scale in keeping with the importance and dignity of the Court and the Judiciary as a coequal, independent branch of the United States Government.
